ABOUT THE
HELLENIC MUSIC FOUNDATION

The Hellenic Music Foundation a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and member of The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, was founded in 1997, promoting, advancing, and preserving the full spectrum of the Greek musical heritage worldwide. It provides greater musical education for young artists interested in developing their knowledge of ancient Greek, Byzantine, medieval, folk and classical music, as well as opera, operetta, art songs, oratorio, piano, chamber and orchestral music. This is accomplished by:
1.
Organizing concerts and recitals covering a wide range of Greek music.
2.
Preserving and maintaining a musical heritage which might otherwise be lost to future generations, by producing and publishing works of Greek composers of times gone by.
3.
Making available to the public, never before published Greek music by printing and publishing important works of older as well as contemporary Greek composers. In addition, by providing essays and other educational material on the history and evolution of Greek music.
4.
Recording on audio and video live performances of selected works never before presented.
5.
Inviting renowned and acclaimed musicians, musicologists and professors to perform, give lectures and conduct open discussions on relative topics.
6.
By means of modern technology, exchanging ideas and materials and collaborating with institutions and universities in order to expand and promote such activities on a mutual basis worldwide.
7.
Through extensive research and involvement in music, in searching out little known Greek classical music, we have found a growing demand for Greek classical pieces among many ethnic groups of diverse cultural backgrounds and interests. We have, already, presented World and US premiere performances in New York City, on March 14th, 1997, Nov. 23rd, 1997 and April 25th, 1998, which featured works by Greek composers and lyricists. The HMF Annual Fund will help defray the cost of such productions and most of our activities in general, among them, our Annual Gala Benefit Classical Concert.
8.
Providing support and tutorial assistance to young musicians who are interested in Greek music, through our Young Artists Programs. Also providing opportunities and possibilities to express and develop their talents with the highest quality of guidance from participants in our Foundation. One such program the Young Artists Showcase, had its successful premiere performance on October 20th, 2001 and was broadcast on Radio WQXR 96.3 FM on November 28th, 2001. The 2nd HMF Young Artists Showcase was presented on June 6, 2008.
9.
Through competitions, the HMF Scholarship Fund. giving young talented musicians an opportunity to perform at a reputable concert hall and win monetary awards based on the amount of money that is available in the fund, in order to further their musical careers.
10.
Once a year, through auditions, The Chionia Gibba Memorial Fund provides to 5 young talented classical singers of Greek and Greek-American descent, 5 hours of private coaching each in vocal technique (Bel canto style), including musical theory, sight singing, ear training and solfege with soprano Katia Zallas. In addition, qualified singers will be given the opportunity to perform at one of the foundation's concerts.
Our goal is to reach thousands of people the world over. This can be accomplished only with your support and participation, and we hope you will assist our organization and become part of this work.
